Si tratta dell'accattivante "Shadowsong" seguito di "Wintersong" recensito dalla nostra Mari e pubblicato ieri pomeriggio...
Ovviamente, se non volete anticipazioni evitate la trama e la recensione, per quanto io cerchi di essere spoiler free non sempre è possibile :)
Detto questo, venite a scoprire cosa ne penso di questa serie Fantasy. Mari ed io avremo avuto le stesse percezioni e opinioni sulla storia di Liesl e il suo Re dei Goblin? Scopriamolo insieme.

At the beginning of the book, the first thing I read was a warning about some kind of contents:
And that is exactly what I got.
I read the book and at the end I was breathless, but not because the book was breathtaking for me. On the contrary I felt very disappointed...after all the rollercoasters of feelings I had during the reading, disappointment is what I ended up with.
I didn't like the slowness of the story...in Wintersong slowness was justified and meaningful because we were entering a new, oniric world, everything was a discovery. But here, it was dense and meaningless.
All the characters are sorrounded by a sort of dark cloud of negativity, depression and pain...and I talk for myself only when I say this dense feeling prevented the connection between me and the story.
The Goblin King was a mere presence in the book and, even if I love the romantic name he has, I wanted more of him. So my expectations of him were another big disappointment.
And the music...if in Wintersong was a main character, in Shadowsong it was annihilated by all the not so healthy feelings that crushed it and made it dissappear.
Of course there is an announced death, but the character that made me sad and angry at the same time was Liesl...Whiny, arrogant, egocentric, some time even insensitive.
Overall this book left an empty feeling in me.
Also this book is the proof that, even if it's very well written, when there is no empathy between the reader and the story even the best author will receive a negative review.
And this is the case. The only thing I really love is the cover.

“ Shadowsong contains characters who deal with self harm, addiction, reckless behaviors, and suicidal ideation. If these subjects are triggering or otherwise upsetting to you, please proceed with caution. If you are struggling with suicidal toughts, please know there are resources and people who can assist you at the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. Please call, you are not alone.”
I started this book with a sort of deep respect for the author for writing that, but at the same time I knew that the book was not going to be light or healthy at all.And that is exactly what I got.

Appena si apre il libro, la primissima cosa che si legge è un messaggio dell'autrice.
Avvisa i suoi lettori che questo libro potrebbe essere problematico per chi soffre di autolesionismo, abusi o pensieri suicidi. Ricordando ai suddetti lettori di chiamare aiuto prima di compiere l'inevitabile perchè non sono soli.
Inizio quindi la lettura con una sorta di apprezzamento per questa autrice, per il gesto di rispetto che compie verso i suoi lettori, ma con il presentimento che non sarà un libro leggero o sano.
Avvisa i suoi lettori che questo libro potrebbe essere problematico per chi soffre di autolesionismo, abusi o pensieri suicidi. Ricordando ai suddetti lettori di chiamare aiuto prima di compiere l'inevitabile perchè non sono soli.
Inizio quindi la lettura con una sorta di apprezzamento per questa autrice, per il gesto di rispetto che compie verso i suoi lettori, ma con il presentimento che non sarà un libro leggero o sano.
E così è.
Alla fine della lettura mi trovo senza fiato. Tuttavia non sono soddisfatta delle montagne russe che ho provato leggendo il libro.
La lentezza del libro, giustificata in un certo senso in Wintersong, qui non trova la sua dimensione.
I personaggi hanno tutti questa nuvola di negatività e pesantezza, depressione e dolore, che li avvolge...e parlo personalmente quando dico che non sono riusciti a creare con me alcuna connessione.
Il re, di cui viene svelato il nome, è una fugace presenza in questo libro...quando le aspettative su di lui erano molto alte.

Non sono riuscita ad immedesimarmi in lei e forse questa è stata la causa della mia bassa sopportazione nei suoi confronti. Una lagna, arrogante, so tutto io, a tratti insensibile.
Nel complesso è un libro che mi ha lasciato un vuoto dentro.
Ed è stata per me la prova che, nonostante una scrittura corretta, se non si crea empatia tra lettore e storia anche il migliore degli autori potrebbe ricevere una recensione negativa.
Ed è questo il caso. Si salva solo per la spettacolare copertina.
