Bennett Fox walked into my life on one hell of a crappy Monday morning. While I lugged my belongings up to my new office, a meter maid wrote me a parking summons. Things started to perk up when I ran into a gorgeous man in the elevator. We had one of those brief moments that only happened in movies. You know the deal…your body lights up, fireworks go off, and the air around you crackles with electricity. His heated stare left me flush when I stepped off the elevator. Maybe things here wouldn’t be so bad after all. Or so I thought.

Until I walked into my new boss’s office and met my competition. The gorgeous man from the elevator was now my nemesis. His heated stare wasn’t because of any mutual attraction. It was because he’d saw me vandalize his car. And now he couldn’t wait to annihilate his rival. There’s a fine line between love and hate—and we shouldn’t cross it. We shouldn’t—but straddling that line could be so much fun.

Bennett Fox è entrato nella mia vita in un infernale lunedì mattina di merda. Ero in ritardo per il primo giorno nel mio nuovo lavoro, un lavoro per il quale adesso avrei dovuto competere con un’altra persona, anche se già lavoravo da otto anni per guadagnarmelo, a causa di una fusione inaspettata. Mentre trascinavo le mie cose nel nuovo ufficio, una vigilessa mi ha messo una multa.

Ha multato una lunga fila di macchine, eccetto che l'Audi parcheggiata di fronte a me, che, guarda caso, era la stessa marca e modello della mia. Irritata, ho deciso di regalare la mia multa all'auto che aveva eluso la sanzione. C’erano buone probabilità che il proprietario avrebbe pagato senza mai venire a conoscenza dell’accaduto: se non fosse che gli ho rotto accidentalmente il tergicristallo mentre infilavo il ticket sul parabrezza dell'auto. La mia giornata non poteva veramente andare peggio.

Le cose cominciarono ad andare un po’ meglio quando ho incontrato quell’uomo stupendo nell'ascensore. Abbiamo avuto uno di quei brevi momenti che di solito accadono solo nei film. Si sa come funziona ... il corpo si accende, i fuochi d'artificio esplodono e l'aria intorno a te scoppietta di elettricità. Il suo sguardo acceso mi ha fatto arrossire quando sono uscita dall'ascensore. Forse le cose qui in ufficio non sarebbero state poi così male dopo tutto. O almeno così pensavo.

Finché non sono entrata nell'ufficio del mio nuovo capo e ho incontrato colui che sarebbe stato in competizione con me. L'uomo meraviglioso dell'ascensore era ora la mia nemesi. Il suo sguardo era accorato non per l’attrazione reciproca ma perché mi aveva visto vandalizzare la sua macchina. E ora non vedeva l'ora di annientare la sua rivale. C'è una linea sottile tra amore e odio, e non dovremmo attraversarla. Non dovremmo, ma cavalcare quella linea potrebbe essere davvero divertente.

Mary's Review

The umpteenth Keeland’s great work. The enemy-to lovers theme is frequent in novels, but Vi Keeland could write the same plot every time and yet succeed each time to excite and stand out.
Bennett and Annalise will steal your hearts, like all the other characters of this admirable writer. Those two, together, will actually drive you crazy. Bennet is the classic alpha male, super protective and jealous. Not exactly my type, I would say, yet I do not know how he conquered and knocked me out! Perhaps because behind that mask Keeland has hidden a docile man, with his important past. Annalise is a smart, winning and brilliant woman, of those people hard to find nowadays. Dedicated to the career, but without treading on others: the opposite of Bennet, who has no scruples in terms of work!

There is no need to spend many words on the Keeland’s novels: if you’ve always read her, like me, you know very well that you’re going to buy not just a simple book, but the guarantee of hours of pure enjoyment. You can be sure that going into one of her stories means being hooked from the get go. Her love stories, like the one between Bennett and Annalise, are always well written, complex and articulate, never banal, and they narrate a love that is not easily earned.

I will not tell you anything else about the plot, because Keeland deserves to be read totally blind, without checking teasers or having any idea of what it will be. As I did, and it was a great choice. I knew I would get on a carousel of emotions that would make my head spin, but it was absolutely worth it.

L’ennesimo ottimo lavoro della Keeland. Il tema nemici-amanti è frequente nei romanzi rosa, ma la Keeland potrebbe scrivere ogni volta la stessa trama eppure riuscire ogni volta ad emozionare e a distinguersi. Anche Bennett e Annalise ruberanno i vostri cuori, come tutti gli altri personaggi di questa mirabile scrittrice.

Quei due insieme vi faranno veramente impazzire! Bennet è il classico maschio alfa protettivo e geloso. Non esattamente il mio tipo, eppure non so come mi ha conquistata e messa ko! Forse perché dietro quella maschera la Keeland ha nascosto un uomo docile, col suo passato importante. Annalise è una donna vicente e brillante, di quelle persone difficili da trovare al giorno d’oggi. Dedite alla carriera, ma senza calpestare gli altri: l’opposto di Bennet, che in fatto di lavoro non ha scrupoli!

Non c’è da spendere molte parole sui romanzi della Keeland: chi la legge da sempre, come me, sa benissimo di acquistare non un semplice libro, ma la garanzia di ore di puro godimento. Puoi stare certo che aprire uno dei suoi libri, vuol dire venirne catturato fin dall’inizio. Le sue storie d’amore, come quella di Bennett e Annalise, sono sempre ben scritte, complesse ed articolate, mai banali, e narrano di un amore che non si guadagna facilmente.

Non vi svelo null’altro della trama, perché la Keeland merita di essere letta ad occhi chiusi, senza leggere teaser, senza avere idea di cosa sarà. Come ho fatto io, ed è stata un’ottima scelta. Sapevo che sarei salita su una giostra di emozioni che mi avrebbe fatto girare la testa, ma ne è valsa assolutamente la pena.
